Director 1967-1975
Eric Berggren (1912-1983) was an archeologist who came straight from the Swedish Institute in Rome. There he had led the excavations of Villa Selvasecca, a ruin whose oldest remains could be dated to around 200 BC.
For Berggren the most important thing was to maintain operations at Villa San Michele. He started music events in the chapel. In 1970 there was a celebration marking the chapel’s 1000 year jubilee. Over the years the concerts took on an international character.
