SEPTEMBER

Friday 2 september

Certosa di San Giacomo, Capri - Chiostro piccolo - 20:30

Villa San Michele in collaboration with the Friends of the Certosa di Capri and with the support of the Swedish Embassy presents:
the Carrasco Dance Company of Stockholm performs Bartolomeo and Burr, two modern choreographies that explore the boundaries of contemporary dance.

Carrasco Dance Company
was founded by Mari Carrasco in 2008. Together with her strong female dancers she wants to open up to new thoughts and break the barrier between high and refined culture versus pop culture and underground scenes such as streetdance.
CDC pushes the boundaries and genres in the dance world and creates a new integration of music, movement and expression with the ambition to reach a wider audience. Their trademark on stage and as dancers is to be tough, rich, fast and have a very direct way of attacking the material.
CDC’s goals is to give contemporary dance a new meaning and create an awareness of how it can be explored and showcased on stage. They also have the ambition to give workshops teaching a new way of exploring what contemporary dance can be today.

Bartolomeo: Five women, five wills, five bags of flour.
Bartolomeo is a powerful motion study of five women’s inward frustration about her role and place in the society. It takes the expression in the form of gestures and body percussion, culminating in a crescendo of massive physical movements and liberation. Various music and dance styles meet, such as oriental, house, vouging and urban movements. It is humorous, unpredictable, strong and challenging.

BURR: This piece is a fast and exciting examination of the physical body. With strict and robotic movement the dancers explore the awareness and the athleticism of the human body. In contrast with the more controlled movements of the body, the music is pumping heavy housebeats, which the dancers sometimes just have to surrender to. Energy and dynamism are set as defining points and the movement is the main focus. “Burr” stands for the focused feeling that you have before a fight, a game that you just have to win…
