There are a few objects that date to the Etruscan period, around 600-500 BC.
The origin of the Etruscans is disputed (probably Asia Minor), but what is sure is that many of their remains have been found in an area north of Rome (in Etruria). We don’t know where Axel Munthe found/purchased them.
The best known object in Axel Munthe’s collection is the so-called Etruscan Sphinx, which is on the chapel terrace. A lesser known object is the votive head. Several more or less unassuming funerary urns are also part of Axel Munthe’s collection. Two have motifs from Classical mythology.
