On the western cliff of Anacapri, not far from Materita, is a tower once used to guard the waters of the open Mediterranean.
After its acquisition Munthe decided to maintain the tower’s primitive condition as much as possible. He choose instead to build a house farther in on the plateau, well hidden in a pine forest, and painted it so that it blended in with nature. This without the builder forsaking its characteristic old-fashioned style.
