Erdeös writes:

Having passed through the doorway with the inscription San Michele in gold mosaic and marble friezes with animal and plant motifs, at the back of the vestibule we come across a group of objects which may be interpreted as symbols of Axel Munthe's philosophy. At the top a rose-window evokes the image of the sun and light. The fragment of marble set in the wall represents figures symbolising life, art and beuty.
