June 22, 8 pm Swedish Film Goes Capri THE EMIGRANTS (Utvandrarna, Sweden 2021) Italian premiere

The story of Kristina Nilsson, a mother who leaves a poverty-stricken Sweden with her family in the 1850s and sets out on a long, dangerous journey, hoping to find a better life for herself and her children in America. Based on one of Swedish litterature's most loved classics Utvandrarna (1949), by Vilhelm Moberg. Featuring Lisa Carlehed and Gustaf Skarsgård as Kristina and Karl Oskar. Director: Erik Poppe.
The novel was first turned into a movie in 1971 by Jan Troell, with Liv Ullman as Kristina and Max von Sydow as Karl Oskar. The new film flips the perspective and tells the dramatic story of an emigrating family from the point of view of the woman, Kristina.
