From June 6 to 8, international and Italian guests will take turns during the three evenings: from the stars of the popular Netflix series Young Royals, Edvin Ryding and Felicia Maxime, to the beloved actress and writer Chiara Francini, to the young promising Italian actress Noemi Brando, the versatile actor and voice actor Massimo Cagnina, and the director Erik Gandini, known in Italy mainly for the documentary film Videocracy. Each day, the screening of the films will be preceded by a brief meeting/presentation, introduced by the director of Villa San Michele along with the guests, to delve into the themes.
“This year we have been looking out for films with a strong connections between Sweden and Italy. The themes are very relevant; the loneliness of the young when affronting dramatic life changes, dealing with new and old love late in life and, last but not least, our relationship to work, life and leisure," says Kristina Kappelin, director of Villa San Michele.
The program will span three evenings: it opens on Thursday, June 6 at 8 PM with the screening of the film A Part of You (Sweden, 2024), directed by Sigge Eklund and distributed by Netflix.
The actors Edvin Ryding and Felicia Maxime will join digitally to talk about the movie. Italian actress Naomi Brando will be present physically. These three talents have gained worldwide fame through new entertainment platforms and social media, becoming idols for millions of young people.
A Part of You is a bittersweet coming-of-age drama that tells the story of a teenager struggling to put the pieces of her life back together.
Agnes’s story is one of life and death about the experience of being seventeen and feeling her heart burst in her chest. Her older sister has everything she wants: she’s the most popular at school, the life of every party, and she dates Noel. If only Agnes could be like her... However, a terrible event disrupts her world, forcing her to reinvent herself.
On Friday, June 7 at 8 PM, the Italian premiere of When in Rome (2024), a Danish, Italian, and Swedish co-production directed by Niclas Bendixen and distributed in Italy by VivoFilm, will be preceded by a meeting with the successful Italian actress, writer and TV host Chiara Francini and Massimo Cagnina, among the Italian actors of the film. The film, shot in Rome, tells the story of a couple’s journey in the eternal city, where both rediscover their passions and zest for life. Gerda meets her ex-lover Johannes and reflects on her past, while Kristoffer witnesses her search for lost youth.
On Saturday, June 8 at 8 PM, the documentary After Work (Sweden, 2023), distributed by Fandango, will close the festival. The screening will be introduced by a debate featuring director Erik Gandini, who will delve into the film's theme, highlighting how new technology will give most of us less work and more free time. But are we able to deal with it? And aren't the Italians the master of "il dolce far niente"?
