Exploring Identity at Villa San Michele: The Sixth Edition of “The Salon of the Sphinx”

Capri, Italy – The sixth edition of “Il Salotto della Sfinge” at Villa San Michele, organized by the Axel Munthe Foundation and led by Superintendent Kristina Kappelin, returns from Thursday, August 22 to Saturday, August 24, 2024.

This year, the festival focuses on the theme of identity, examining who we are, who we aspire to be, and the kind of society we wish to create. A diverse lineup of Italian and international guests will engage in discussions and performances on the panoramic terrace of Villa San Michele.

Notable guests include actors Vittoria Schisano, Sara Lazzaro, Fausto Cabra, and Elisa Del Genio; journalist and writer Paolo Valentino; director and screenwriter Ivan Cotroneo; literary agent Daniele Orazi; Slow Food Italia President Barbara Nappini; designer and Instagram influencer Gianvito Fanelli; and stars of the Netflix series Young Royals, Edvin Ryding and Felicia Maxime.

Villa San Michele’s director Kristina Kappelin shared her excitement: "I am very proud to announce the this edition of ‘The Sphinx Salon’. Each year, we strive to create a space for dialogue, discussion, and reflection. This year, we will delve into the concept of identity, exploring what defines us and how we find our place in the world."

Festival Schedule:

Thursday, August 22, 7:00 PM: The festival opens with the presentation of Ostiawood, a book by literary agent Daniele Orazi, published by Solferino Editore. Orazi will be joined by an actor reading excerpts from the book, offering a humorous look at the film industry.

Thursday, August 22, 8:00 PM: Actors Sara Lazzaro and Fausto Cabra will perform a theatrical piece from Ingmar Bergman’s Scenes from a Marriage, followed by a discussion about their work.

Friday, August 23, 7:00 PM: Gianvito Fanelli, creator of the popular Instagram page "Vita Lenta," will discuss the beauty of simplicity, accompanied by Slow Food Italia President Barbara Nappini, who left a corporate career to embrace a life closer to nature.

Friday, August 23, 8:00 PM: Actress Vittoria Schisano and director Ivan Cotroneo will discuss the themes of cinema and inclusivity, highlighting the Netflix series The Life You Wanted, which portrays the life of a transgender woman.

Saturday, August 24, 7:00 PM: Foreign correspondent and writer Paolo Valentino will present his new book In the Veins of Brussels, sharing behind-the-scenes stories and interviews that explore the complex identity of Brussels.

Saturday, August 24, 8:00 PM: The festival will ends with Swedish actors Edvin Ryding and Felicia Maxime from Young Royals and Elisa Del Genio, known for her role in L'amica geniale. Elisa is half-Norwegian and half-Italian, and the on-stage conversation will focus on the identity of young actors today in a globalized market.

The talks will be moderated in Italian by Villa San Michele's director Kristina Kappelin.

Organized by the Stiftelsen San Michele, under the patronage of the Consulate of Sweden, the Campania Region, the City of Capri, the Municipality of Anacapri, Siae, the Embassy of Sweden, and in collaboration with Capri Palace Jumeirah and Staiano Tour Capri.
