In order to increase public interest, attract a younger audience, and find new ways to make the villa self-supporting, the area that expanded most in 2004 and 2005 has been cultural activities. The museum, which is an excellent example of villa construction from the late 19th century, is a powerful attraction for visitors.
But for a younger generation, few of whom have ever heard of Axel Munthe, let alone read his memoirs, interest in a visit is completely different than for those who came in 1950’s and 60’s, inspired by the poetic descriptions of “ The Story of San Michele”
The cooperation project Munthes Axel, which started in 2003 and has actively continued in 2004-2006, has put the focus on developing and expanding the existing classical music concerts in dialogue with contemporary artistic expression. The project also aimed at promoting cultural links between Sweden and Italy. Anna Brodow Art critic
