Capri Revisited. Peter Sternäng shows his paintings at Villa San Michele from May 21 to June 3

Starting May 21, the Swedish painter Peter Sternäng will exhibit a choice of aquarelles, woodcuts and iPad-paintings at Villa San Michele. The exhibition is called Capri Revisited.
All the works have been created during Peter Sternängs artist residence in the enchanted Villa of Axel Munthe. The view over the bay of Naples at all times and in all different lights, turists on the beach and ferries slowly moving on the sea in the night, all of this inspired the artist to paint.
”The motif became my motive,” as Peter Sternäng expressed it himself in a recent article in the magazine Romhorisont.
Sternäng was born in 1953 and lives and paints in Malmö, Sweden. His works have been shown in several exhibitions in Sweden and Greece. The present exhibition is his first in Italy and will last until June 3.
The aquarelles are inviting with their strong, clear colors. They depict landscapes and people with a sensitive and loving touch. The public beach in Marina Grande in Capri is one of Sternängs preferred motives.
”There I found more interesting models than I ever had over the years at my art schools; thick and thin, tall and short, surrounded by their colorful and patterned paraphernalia and outfits”, writes Sternäng. The so called ”iPaddings” are paintings made during the evenings in the dark, using the iPad screen as a source of light.
Capri Revisited can be seen in Olivetum, the garden pavilion of Villa San Michele which is now used for small, temporary exhibition. Before Sternäng, the renowned Italian painter Isabella Ducrot showed paintings from the series Bella Terra.
Capri Revisited will be open to the public from May 21 to June 3 and is a part of the museum visit. The artist will be present and the paintings are for sale.
