Thursday, 9 October, 6:30 pm — Screening of the film “Blind Light” by Pola Rapaport
Villa San Michele’s cultural season in Anacapri continues. On Thursday, 9 October at 6:30 pm, in the historic chapel of the house-museum that belonged to physician and writer Axel Munthe, the film “Blind Light” by Pola Rapaport will be screened.
This independent film (58 minutes, 1998) — part fiction and part documentary, presented in the original language with Italian subtitles — has a strong connection to the Swedish residence: the screenplay and subsequent filming were carried out during the director’s stays in Anacapri in the 1990s.
As Rapaport recounts:
“Blind Light was written and filmed at Villa San Michele together with my husband and partner, Wolfgang Held.
I remember we were invited by Inez Hagbarth, at the Swedish headquarters of the Foundation, to stay at the villa to write the screenplay and prepare the film. We were warmly welcomed by the then director Levente Erdeös and his wife Marilù. We returned in 1994 to shoot with the young actress Edie Falco, a small cast, and a small crew.
The work was completed in 1998 and widely screened at festivals and on television around the world. Edie later won several Emmys for her subsequent work.”
Villa San Michele’s season of events, directed by Kristina Kappelin, is held under the patronage of the Embassy of Sweden. Admission to the screening is free until capacity is reached; booking is recommended.
