Villa San Michele Opens Its 2025 Concert Series
Villa San Michele Opens Its 2025 Concert SeriesOn Friday 20 June at 8 PM, Villa San Michele—former home of physician and author Axel Munthe and one of the most visited museums in Campania—opens its renowned summer concert series A Summer Dream.
Opening the season is the acclaimed string ensemble Camerata Nordica, featuring Shuichi Okada (first violin), Daina Mateikaite (second violin), Cara Coetzee (viola), and Zéphyrin Rey-Bellet (cello). The evening’s programme includes music by Giacomo Puccini and Franz Schubert, as well as Nordic folk melodies and works by Antonín Dvořák.
Following the success of the fourth edition of the Swedish Film Festival, Villa San Michele’s director Kristina Kappelin presents a rich line-up of international artists:
“The concert series is one of Villa San Michele’s most cherished traditions, and this year I’m proud to announce a new collaboration with one of the most prestigious musical institutions in the world: the Paganini Prize.”
Concerts will take place every Friday through August 8th, under the artistic direction of musical advisor Bo Löfvendahl, with support from Progetto Piano and under the patronage of the Embassy of Sweden.
The second concert in the series will be held in the historic chapel and features a baroque repertoire performed by mezzo-soprano Kristina Hammarström, flutist Dan Laurin, and pianist Anna Paradiso Laurin, with works by Antonio Vivaldi, Georg Friedrich Händel, and Caroline Ridderstolpe.
On 4 July at 8 PM, the panoramic terrace hosts a jazz evening with singer Nina Nyberg and pianist Daniel Karlsson, performing music by Kurt Weill and Duke Ellington.
Anticipation is high for the 11 July performance featuring the return of pianist Matti Hirvonen and the debut of soprano Matilda Sterby, with works by Jean Sibelius, Richard Strauss, Edvard Grieg, Giacomo Puccini, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
On 18 July at 8 PM, soprano Alexandra Büchel, baritone Fredrik Zetterström, and pianist Love Derwinger present a programme of arias by Giuseppe Verdi, Hans Gefors, and Jerome Kern.
A highlight of the season will be the concert on 25 July at 8 PM. For the first time on Capri, Villa San Michele, in collaboration with the prestigious Paganini International Violin Competition, hosts the winner of its 57th edition, Simon Zhu, joined by pianist Sophie Pacini. The duo will perform music by W. A. Mozart, Johannes Brahms, and Niccolò Paganini.
On 1 August at 8 PM, celebrated French pianist Jean Paul Gasparian will perform a programme dedicated to Tchaikovsky, Franz Liszt, and Giuseppe Verdi.
The final concert on 8 August at 8 PM welcomes back Italian pianist Giuseppe Andaloro, who will present works by Brahms, Ravel, King Crimson, and Emerson.
Tickets (€20; reduced rate for youth and students: €10) are available at the ticket office 30 minutes before the concert, or in advance daily from 9 AM to 6 PM.
It is possible to return to Naples on the last ferry after the concerts have finished.
