Friday 24 July at 8 p.m. Vocal ensemble Rhapsody to headline the fifth concert at Villa San Michele
Villa San Michele will host a concert with a difference, featuring the acclaimed vocal ensemble Rhapsody. The group brings together five outstanding singers—Hans Arturson, Gunnar Backman, Johan Pejler and Tomas Riad, led by Johan Schinkler—who will present the Capri audience with an entirely a cappella programme spanning centuries of musical history.
The ensemble’s name reflects the great variety of its repertoire, recalling the ancient Greek rhapsodes who travelled from place to place reciting poetry and telling stories. Rhapsody draws inspiration from a wide range of musical genres, including Swedish folk music, Renaissance madrigals, classical works by composers such as Bach and Saint-Saëns, jazz standards and contemporary international hits—all specially arranged for five male voices.
Alongside the remarkable breadth of their repertoire, the ensemble is celebrated for its impressive vocal range and distinctive sound. Over the course of their successful career, the singers have performed internationally, appeared on numerous television and radio programmes, and taken to stages of all kinds.
As usual, Villa San Michele’s concert season will continue every Friday until 14 August. The programme has been developed with musical consultant Bo Löfvendahl, with the support of Progetto Piano and under the patronage of the Embassy of Sweden.
Reservations are strongly recommended.
