Swedish Film Goes Capri: 3–6 June at Villa San Michele
The fifth edition of Swedish Film Goes Capri, the Swedish film festival at Villa San Michele, returns from Wednesday 3 to Saturday 6 June, in collaboration with the Embassy of Sweden in Italy.Across four evenings, the festival will welcome actors Tecla Insolia, Sabina Guzzanti, Cristina Donadio, Christian Fandango, Isac Calmroth, Aurora Venosa, Antonio D’Aquino and Francesco Luciani; directors Sara Petraglia, Lisa Langseth and Jan Scherman; and Maurizio Gemma, Director of the Film Commission Regione Campania.
Now in its fifth edition, the festival was created to promote Swedish cinema and has grown into a meeting point between Sweden and Italy, bringing together filmmakers, actors and institutions from both countries. Each screening will be introduced by a short conversation with the guests, moderated by Villa San Michele’s Director, Kristina Kappelin.
“As a Swedish institution, Villa San Michele works to build lasting bridges between Italy and Sweden,” says Kristina Kappelin. “Swedish Film Goes Capri brings together the Swedish and Italian film worlds on one stage and adds an important cultural moment to the island of Capri.”
The programme opens on Wednesday 3 June at 8 pm with L’Albero by Sara Petraglia.
The director will attend together with actress Tecla Insolia and Giuliana Aliberti, Director of Visionarie. The film received the Premio Millennial Visionaria 2025, an award dedicated to young women directors in Italian cinema, with which Villa San Michele collaborates.
On Thursday 4 June at 8 pm, the festival continues with the Italian premiere of The Dance Club (2025), directed by Lisa Langseth. Langseth will be joined by Maurizio Gemma, Director of the Film Commission Regione Campania, and young actors Antonio D’Aquino, Francesco Luciani and Aurora Venosa, known for their roles in popular Italian series such as Mare Fuori and La Preside. Moving between comedy and drama, The Dance Club looks at mental health, contemporary unease and the need for new ways of listening and caring.
On Friday 5 June at 8 pm, the Italian premiere of Doktor Glas (2026), directed by Erik Leijonborg, will be introduced by actors Isac Calmroth and Christian Fandango, two leading names in the new Swedish film scene, together with Neapolitan actress and director Cristina Donadio, known internationally for her role as Chanel in the cult series Gomorra. Inspired by the novel by Hjalmar Söderberg, the film turns one of Sweden’s literary classics into a contemporary psychological thriller.
The festival closes on Saturday 6 June at 8 pm with the documentary Make Democracy Great Again (2023), directed by John Lundberg. The screening will be introduced by Jan Scherman, who developed the project, and writer, actress and director Sabina Guzzanti. The film asks one of the most urgent questions of our time: can democracy survive? Its themes will be discussed in dialogue with Guzzanti’s documentary Spin Time – Che fatica la democrazia! (2021), dedicated to the occupied building Spin Time in Rome and its experiment in everyday democracy from below.
The festival is organised by the Axel Munthe Foundation, under the patronage of the Consulate of Sweden, the City of Capri, the Municipality of Anacapri and the Embassy of Sweden, in collaboration with Jumeirah Capri Palace, Capri Pasta, Bar Grotta Azzurra, Annuccia la Torta Caprese and Staiano Tour Capri.
