Villa San Michele’s summer concert season returns on Friday, 26 June at 8:00 PM

The programme begins on Friday, 26 June with music by Puccini, Mozart and Verdi, and continues weekly until 14 August

Villa San Michele’s summer concert season returns on Friday, 26 June at 8:00 PM, opening a programme of classical music, opera, a cappella performance and international collaborations on one of Capri’s most atmospheric stages.
The former home of physician and writer Axel Munthe, Villa San Michele is among the most visited museums in Campania and home to the Swedish institutions on Capri. The opening concert will take place on the panoramic terrace, with soprano Sigrid Vetleseter Bøe, bass Erik Rosenius and pianist Hedda Hansen Berg performing works by some of the most beloved composers of all time: Giacomo Puccini, W. A. Mozart and Giuseppe Verdi.

Following the success of the fifth edition of Swedish Film Goes Capri, which drew strong public interest, Villa San Michele continues its summer cultural programme with a rich series of musical events.
“Our concerts are always highly anticipated, and this year we wanted to offer a more varied programme, opening it up to different genres while maintaining the highest artistic quality,” says Kristina Kappelin, Director of Villa San Michele. “Artists such as tenor Daniel Johansson, appointed Singer to the Swedish Royal Court, and pianist and conductor Nicole Brancale, together with our renewed collaboration with the Premio Paganini, make this one of the island’s most appreciated music festivals.”

The concert series will take place every Friday until 14 August, with musical consultancy by Bo Löfvendahl, thanks to the support of Progetto Piano and under the patronage of the Embassy of Sweden.

On Friday, 3 July, From Carmen to Sinatra will take audiences on a musical journey around the world, moving from Bizet to Weill and beyond. The ensemble features crooner Niklas Gabrielsson, mezzo-soprano Elisabet Jansson, accordionist Albin Grahn, pianist Astri Aareskjöld and double bassist Ulric Johansson.

On Friday, 10 July, pianist Magnus Svensson returns to Villa San Michele to accompany tenor Daniel Johansson in a tribute to celebrated Italian composers including Umberto Giordano, Francesco Cilea and Giacomo Puccini.

On Friday, 17 July, soprano Clarice Granado and pianist John Nalan will perform a programme featuring works by composers such as Charles Gounod and George Gershwin.

On Friday, 24 July, Villa San Michele will host its first a cappella concert on the stage of the Swedish residence. The vocal group Rhapsody, led by Johan Schinkler, will perform music by J. S. Bach, Camille Saint-Saëns and Jerome Kern.

On Friday, 31 July, Villa San Michele renews its partnership with one of the world’s most prestigious violin competitions, the Premio Paganini International Violin Competition. Violinist Rino Yoshimoto will perform with pianist Sergei Redkin in a programme featuring works by William Walton and Niccolò Paganini.

In August, the programme turns to Italian artists. On Friday, 7 August, pianist and conductor Nicole Brancale will dedicate her recital to some of the great names of the piano repertoire: Chopin, Ravel, Rachmaninoff and Liszt.

The season closes on Friday, 14 August with Italian pianist Antonino Caracò. The youngest artist in this year’s programme, already established and widely appreciated, will perform a varied repertoire including Ennio Morricone, Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Luigi Dallapiccola and Nino Rota.

Tickets (€20; reduced rate for youth and students €10) are available at the ticket office 30 minutes before the concert, or in advance daily from 9 AM to 6 PM.
